How many years have you been in tech?

Five

Tell me about your background. What were your early years like?

I grew up in McHenry, Illinois, a small town an hour northwest of Chicago. My mother is an artist and my father is a carpenter so my sisters and I grew up doing art projects and helping our dad with projects around the house. I look back now and attribute these early life lessons to my passion for building beautiful, usable, technical solutions.

How were you exposed to tech?

I graduated from Saint Mary’s College, (Notre Dame, IN) with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art in 2010. I concentrated in photography, printmaking and graphic design. My first jobs after graduation were print design focused – I am not naturally a techie! I took a risk and moved to St. Louis for a web design position in 2012 and unknowingly dove directly into the world of tech. I had no idea how different designing for the web would be – everything had to be so flexible! I learned so much that first year, making a lot of mistakes and constantly iterating, but I loved the challenge. I worked directly with developers to learn best practices and picked up front end coding skills.

What is your current role?

UI/UX Designer/Developer at World Wide Technology

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Traveling outside the country. Marrying my husband. Purchasing our house. Learning to code.

What are you learning right now?

How to mix ink by hand using the Pantone Matching System.

What are your hobbies?

Letterpress and silk screen printing, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and hiking.

What do you like about St. Louis? The midwest? Why do you live here?
I settled in St. Louis because this city offered me opportunities that were out of reach in Chicago. My husband and I have been afforded good jobs, great friends and family nearby, and a welcoming neighborhood in South City to call home. St. Louis has a wonderful art and design community and the energy here is inspiring. I love watching new businesses, restaurants, and programs open up and see people actively working toward revitalizing the community.
Who inspires you?

My family, I’m blessed with strong, successful, female role models within my family. My husband, who is encouraging and endlessly patient
